8.2.3 WIRING
The following procedure assumes that the Main and Repeater Shelves will be completely wired before
turning up any E1 or payload circuit. Basic wiring diagrams are shown in Figures 8-2 and 8-3. Also
refer to the "as supplied" drawings furnished with the equipment and the system drawings placed in
Section 22 of this manual at the factory.
1. Connect a ground wire from the GND ground stud on the rear of the Main Shelf to station
ground.
This is a required connection.
2. Connect an external ringing generator or loop current source to the RING GEN terminal on the
input power terminal block on the rear of the Main Shelf.
This step is optional. It is only necessary if the shelf does not use the MA-304
Module Adapter and contains one or more Foreign Exchange Station End
modules, used for Automatic Ring Down or Off Premise Extension).
3. Connect the signaling battery to the SIG BAT terminal on the input power terminal block on
the rear of the Main Shelf.
This step is optional. It is only required if the shelf contains more than two Foreign
Exchange Station End modules, four-wire E&M voice modules using Type II
signaling, or (in some cases) Foreign Exchange Office End modules. Check with
RFL Customer Service if you are not sure whether this battery is necessary).
If SIG BAT is the same voltage as the dc power voltage, then SIG BAT may be
connected to the -BAT terminal instead.
4. Connect the input power source to the input power terminal block on the rear of the Main Shelf
as follows:
Ac-Powered Multiplexers
:
Ac Input (hot) +BAT terminal
Ac Input (neutral) -BAT terminal
Dc-Powered Multiplexers
:
Station Battery + +BAT terminal
Station Battery - -BAT terminal
For dc-powered multiplexers, make sure that a 2-amp slow-blow fuse is placed in
line with Station Battery + to protect the multiplexer.
