8.3.2 DROP/INSERT MULTIPLEXER AT LOCATION 2
The following procedure may be used to check out a drop/insert multiplexer at the "middle" location of
a three-site drop/insert system.
1. Verify that the CM4 module terminating the E1 facility between Locations 1 and 2 is set to the
DI-A mode as follows:
a. Remove the CM4 module for a few seconds and then re-insert it.
b. Look at the display on the CM4 module.
The display should read "DIA" if the module is in the DI-A mode. If it does,
go to step 2.
If the display reads anything else, check the settings of jumpers J1 and J2
on the MA-270R Module Adapter at the rear of the shelf. If the multiplexer
uses a fiber optic interface, check the setting of DIP switch SW1 on the OIA
at the rear of the shelf. (See Section 5 for more information on jumper and
switch settings.
c. Repeat steps 1a and 1b to verify that the CM4 is now in the DI-A mode.
For the rest of this procedure, this module will be referred to as "CM4
Module A."
2. Verify that the CM4 module terminating the E1 facility between Locations 2 and 3 is set to the
DI-B mode as follows:
a. Remove the CM4 module for a few seconds and then re-insert it.
b. Look at the display on the CM4 module.
The display should read "DIB" if the module is in the DI-B mode. If it does,
go to step 3.
If the display reads anything else, check the settings of jumpers J1 and J2
on the MA-270R Module Adapter at the rear of the shelf. If the multiplexer
uses a fiber optic interface, check the setting of DIP switch SW1 on the OIA
at the rear of the shelf. (See Section 5 for more information on jumper and
switch settings.
c. Repeat steps 2a and 2b to verify that the CM4 is now in the DI-B mode.
For the rest of this procedure, this module will be referred to as "CM4
Module B."
3. Verify that E1 line code and frame format are set up as required (TSEL group).
