7 Maintenance and quality control
To ensure that the VitaLite-E and C continues to operate at peak efficiency, the
VitaLite-E and C must be inspected and maintained on a regular basis. The following
sections outline the necessary maintenance procedures for the VitaLite-E and C.
7.1 Maintenance
Please observe the following guidelines when performing maintenance on the
VitaLite-E and C:
Disconnect the mains voltage to the unit before performing any maintenance.
Ensure that all pressure has been removed from the pipes.
Ensure that no moisture can get inside the cabinet.
When replacing or disconnecting pipes, bear in mind the presence of potentially
hazardous substances. See also: "Chemicals" on page21.
Do not leave the VitaLite-E and C cabinet open unnecessarily.
Only use a soft damp cloth to clean the outside of the cabinet and other
equipment. If needed, wet the cloth in a solution of water and mild soap.
For instructions on how to clean up any spills or stains caused by fertilizers,
acid or alkali (lye), please consult the safety data sheets provided by the
producer of the substance in question.
Always take prompt and appropriate action in response to alarm messages.
7.2 Weekly maintenance
The following inspection and maintenance tasks should be performed on the VitaLite-E
and C on a weekly basis:
Pumps: check the pumps for unusual noises and leaks.
Filter(s): check and maintain the filter(s). It is especially important to clean the
screen filter. If the pressure gauges for the screen filter indicate different
values, then clean the screen filter.
Pipes, water storage tanks and stock tanks: check for leaks.
Check measuring equipment (sensors and gauges).
7.3 Monthly maintenance
The following inspection and maintenance tasks should be performed on the VitaLite-E
and C on a monthly basis:
Clean the pH sensors (see the sensor manual for instructions).
Clean the EC sensors (see the sensor manual for instructions).
