Managing the SolarWinds UDT Database
Using Database Manager
The Database Manager can be used to perform queries, view databases, and table
details.
Note: Only limited Database Manager functionality is available on SolarWinds
installations using Orion Core Services version 2012.2 and higher. For installations
using Orion Core Services version 2012.2 and higher, use SQL Server Management
Studio to manage your SolarWinds database. For more information, see "Using SQL
Server Management Studio."
Adding a Server
If you have not already designated a database for use, perform the following steps to
add a SQL server to the Database Manager. Once added, your selected server and
associated databases display in the tree structure in the left pane of Database
Manager.
To add a SQL server to Database Manager:
1. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features >
Database Manager.
2. You can select either Add server or Add default server.
Note: Once your SQL server has been added to the Database Manager you will then
be able to view databases, table details, and run queries against those tables.
Using SQL Server Management Studio
If you have a licensed, Standard or Enterprise Edition copy of SQL Server 2005, 2008
or 2012 with SQL Server Management Studio installed, you can use it to maintain
your SolarWinds UDT database. The following procedure is a basic guide to
configuring a daily Orion Platform database maintenance plan in SQL Server
Management Studio.
Notes:
n Your specific environment may require additional configuration.
n You may need to contact your database administrator to gain access to SQL
Server Management Studio for your Orion Platform database.
