SECTION 9E. LIFT CYLINDER
GENERAL
The lift cylinder is used to lift and lower the mowing
deck. The lift arm, pulleys, chains, and cylinder are
mounted using nuts and bolts (Figure 9E-1).

REMOVAL
1. Start the engine and lift the mower deck com-
pletely.
2. Disconnect the weight transfer springs from the
upper anchor bolts.
3. Lower the mower deck completely, shut down the
engine, and remove the ignition key. Disconnect
the lift chains from the mower deck.
4. Remove the weight transfer spring mounting
bracket (Figure 9E-2).

5. Remove the steering tower cover (Figure 9E-2).
6. Remove the lift chains from the cylinder pulleys
(Figure 9E-1).
7. Thoroughly clean the hydraulic cylinder and area
surrounding the cylinder.
8. Tag and disconnect the hoses at the lift cylinder.
Immediately plug the hoses and cylinder ports to
prevent contamination of the hydraulic system.
9. Remove the two pivot mounting bolts
(Figure 9E-3).
CAUTION
Care must be taken to avoid damaging the surface
of the cylinder rod during removal and installation.
