SECTION 10L. GAUGES
GENERAL
Repair of gauges and sending units are limited to the
replacement of faulty components or wiring. Before
replacing a gauge that is not working, make sure to
check for proper ground connections and perform a
voltage check at the gauge wire. If the grounds and
voltage checks are okay, a gauge can be tested as
described below.
GAUGE TEST (U3 & U4)
Test the water temperature and fuel gauge using the
following procedure (Figure 10L-1).
1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
2. Disconnect the lead wire (S terminal on gauge) to
the sending unit and ground the wire, or use a
jumper wire to ground the sending unit wire.
The gauge indicator should go all the way up. If
not, the gauge or wiring is defective and must be
replaced. If the gauge needle does go to the
upper limit but does not work during operation, the
sending unit is faulty.
