Installation Notes
• Apply dielectric grease (Jacobsen PN 365422) to any
wire connectors disconnected.
• Install alternator by reversing the order of removal.
• Adjust fan belt tension. (See “Fan Belt (Diesel)” on
page 3-7.)
Starter Motor
Removal and Installation
See Figure 4-38.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Disconnect the negative (–) battery cable at the
battery.

NOTE
Label all wires before disconnecting to ensure correct
installation.
3. Disconnect wire connectors (6 and 7) from starter
motor (1).
4. Remove engine oil dipstick (8).
5. Support starter motor.
6. Remove screws (3), lock washers (4), and flat
washers (5).
7. Remove starter motor.
Installation Note
Install starter motor by reversing the order of removal.
Instrument Panel
Removal and Installation
See Figure 4-39.
NOTE
If servicing individual components, it is not always
necessary to completely remove the instrument panel.
1. Park the mower safely. (See “Park Mower Safely” on
page 1-6.)
2. Remove instrument panel cover. (See “Instrument
Panel Cover” on page 9-13.)

3. Remove mow/traction selector knob (3).
4. Remove screws (1) and washers (2).
5. Remove two screws (5), washers (6), and nuts (7).
NOTES
If moving the instrument panel aside, use caution to
prevent stretching or pinching the wires.
6. Lift and move instrument panel (4) aside or service
components as needed.
Installation Notes
• Anti-seize compound must be applied to screw
threads when installing instrument panel.
• Use new cable ties to secure wire connectors and
wire harness.
• Install instrument panel by reversing the order of
removal.
