The modules are divided into two main functional groups, which are further divided into functional
subgroups:
TR-specific module groups

--Channel 2; SLOT 3
Figure 8: Module groups, Slot assignments (“…”: Default)
Four main configuration options are derived from the above diagram
Legacy mode
TR mode
OPTION: PNO safety mode
PNO channel mode
Channel 1 is generally assigned to the master system, and Channel 2 is generally assigned to the
test system. Both channels are not safety instrumented. All SAFETY modules are safety instrumented.
Compatibility demands that the two Safety (Legacy) and Channel 1 (Legacy) modules are
only operated in pairs when operated in “Legacy mode”. Modules can be freely selected in all other
configurations. This means that a configuration is not necessarily safety instrumented.
Process data and parameter scope are predefined in “Legacy mode”, which is why no further
submodules are possible. Process data and parameter scope depend on the submodule selection in
all other configurations.
Safety instrumented modules can be configured several times for shared-device applications with
Slots 1/4/5/6 being intended for such use see Chapter 8 on Page 138.
Channel 1 is assigned to Slot 2, and Channel 2 is assigned to Slot 3.
Legacy mode
The Legacy mode is suitable for control systems that only support 16-bit registers. The safety-related
process data are transferred with the PROFIsafe V2.4 Basic Protocol (BP).
TR mode (default setting)
The TR mode supports 32-bit registers. The safety-related data can be transmitted optionally with the
PROFIsafe V2.4 Basic Protocol (BP) or with the PROFIsafe V2.6.1 Expanded Protocol (XP).
OPTION: PNO safety mode
The PNO safety mode supports the PNO encoder profile V4.2. The safety-related data can be
transmitted optionally with the PROFIsafe V2.4 Basic Protocol (BP) or with the PROFIsafe V2.6.1
Expanded Protocol (XP).
PNO channel mode
The PNO channel mode supports the PNO encoder profile V4.2. The process data are transferred
about the PROFINET IO.
