6.4 ECG Monitoring Steps
6.4.1 Lead Monitoring Operation
1. Skin preparation. To obtain a good ECG signal, the patient's skin must be cleaned before
placing the ECG lead electrode or paddles, preferably in a flat area with less muscle. Please refer
to the following steps for skin preparation:
Remove the body hair at the electrode placement.
Gently wipe the skin where the electrodes are placed to remove dead skin cells.
Wash skin thoroughly with soapy water (do not use ether and pure alcohol, as this will
increase skin resistance).
Allow the skin to dry completely before placing the electrodes.
2. Clamp the lead electrodes or secure them.
3. Place the electrodes on the patient.
4. Connect the ECG lead wire and ECG main cable.
5. Connect the ECG main cable to the defibrillator monitor.
6. Rotate the mode selection switch to the monitoring position.
