LL: placed in the left lower quadrant.
• 5-lead
Take the AHA standard as an example, the electrode of the 5-lead is placed as shown in the
figure:
6- 4 5-lead electrode placement position
RA electrode: placed under the right clavicle, near the right shoulder.
LA electrode: placed under the left clavicle, near the left shoulder.
RL electrode: placed on the right lower abdomen.
LL electrode: placed on the left lower abdomen.
V-electrode: placed on the chest wall, fourth intercostal sternal margin.
• Electrode Placement for Surgical Patients
When fitting electrodes to surgical patients, the type of procedure to be performed should
be considered. For example, for thoracotomy, the chest electrode can be placed on the chest side
or the back. In addition, to reduce the impact of artifacts on the ECG waveform, electrodes can
be placed on the left and right shoulders, near the right and left sides of the abdomen, and the
chest leads can be placed on the left side of the middle of the chest. Do not place electrodes on
the upper arm. Otherwise, the ECG waveform would become very narrow.
Warnings:
When using an electrosurgical device (ESU), place the ECG electrode in the middle between
the electrosurgical unit grounding plate and the electrosurgical knife to avoid burns. The cable of
the electrosurgical unit should not be entangled with the ECG cable.
When using an electrosurgical unit (ESU), never place the electrodes close to the grounding
plate of the ESU, otherwise, there will be a large amount of interference to the ECG signal.
6.4.3 Monitoring Operation with Paddles/Pads
1. Skin preparation.
2. Placement of the external defibrillation paddles/multi-function pads.
• Use multi-function pads: attach the multi-function pads to the patient as instructed on
the pads package. Use panterior-anterior placement.
