7 Non-invasive Pacing
7.1 Overview
Non-invasive pacing therapy is a cardiac emergency pacing method that stimulates the heart
with external electrodes. In non-invasive pacing mode, pace pulses are delivered to the patient
through the multi-function pads. Each time a pace pulse is delivered to the patient, a white
pacing mark appears on the ECG waveform. In pacing mode, monitoring, and alarms for
physiological parameters other than Resp can be performed as usual.
The i6 supports both fixed and on-demand pacer modes:
Fixed pacer mode: the Defibrillator Monitor delivers pace pulses according to the set
pacing rate.
On-demand pacer mode: The Defibrillator Monitor delivers pace pulses only when the
patient's heart rate is lower than the set pacing rate.
During pacing, you can change the pacer mode by using the pacer mode hotkey or by
referring to "7.3 Pacing settings". At this time, pacing does not stop, and rhythm pulses are
delivered at the set pacing rate and pacing current.
Under pacing in on-demand mode, a white R- wave marker will also appear on the ECG
waveform until capture occurs. 3-lead or 5-lead ECG cables and ECG electrodes should be used as
the signal source for ECG waveforms during on-demand pacing. Pace pulses will be delivered
through multi-function pads; however, pads cannot be used to simultaneously monitor ECG
waveforms and deliver the pace pulses.
Caution:
Use the on-demand pacer mode whenever possible. Use fixed mode pacing only if
interference is present that makes R-wave monitoring unreliable or if no monitoring electrode is
available.
Unde the fixed pacer mode, the R- wave mark does not appear on the pace markers.
Under on-demand pacer mode, if the patient's heart rate is higher than the pacing rate,
the device will not deliver pace pulses and therefore will not display a pacing marker.
The pacer mode supports arrhythmia analysis. Arrhythmia alarms that can be provided
in pacer mode include Asystole, VFib, and VTach.
If the pacing is interrupted for any reason, you must press the [Start Pacing] soft key to
continue pacing.
When the pads are in poor contact, the system may give prompts of "abnormal pacing
stop" and "pads falling off".
In pacer mode, the multi-function pads cannot be used as the signal source for ECG
waveforms.
