6.5 Transformer Module
The transformer module can decrease the high input analog values to relevant low output analog
values as to the small transformer ratio, acting as an effective isolation between the relay and the
power system. The low output analog values, within the range of the AD module after the
conversion, are sent to the AD module for further processing. A low pass filter circuit is used to
reduce the noise of each analog channel.
The frame of two typical transformer modules of different specifications are shown below. The first
transformer module consists of 7 voltage channels and 8 current channels. The second one
consists of 8 voltage channels and 7 current channels. The current terminal will be automatically
short circuited when it is plugged out.
DANGER!
NEVER allow the secondary side of the current transformer (CT) to be opened while
the primary apparatus is energized. The opened CT secondary circuit will produce an
extremely high voltage and high heat. Although the current terminal will be
automatically short circuited when it is plugged out, the safety precaution should be
