Job Card CAL A048 - Calibration of Compression Force Sensor
6-2 Calibration procedure
1. Select the Compression Force Sensor Calibration on the AWS Screen: Service Desktop/Calibra-
tion/Positioner/Compression and press START.
2. You are asked to follow the instructions displayed on the Gantry readout, summarized here:
- Set the arm rotation to 0°.
- Install the standard 19 x 23 cm compression paddle.
- Install the Bucky.
- Place a 10 mm acrylic plate (minimum dimensions 200 x 200 mm) on the Bucky.
- Place the calibrated force detector on the acrylic.
3. The Gantry readout displays a series of force values to be applied, starting with 0 daN.
4. For each requested force, use the manual compression knobs to move the paddle down until the
external force detector displays the requested force. Press the collimator FOV size button (behind
the tube head) to signal to the system that the requested force is applied and a measurement can be
taken.
5. If an error message appears, follow the instructions of the message.
6. When all requested force values have been successfully measured by the system, save the calibra-
tion results by clicking the Save button on the AWS screen.
7. If you wish to exit the calibration without saving the results (leaving the system un-calibrated or using
the previous settings), click the Cancel button on the AWS screen.
6-3 Verification of the Compression Force Sensor calibration
Note:
If you are re-calibrating a Compression board that already contains calibration information (e.g.
you are performing a re-calibration of an existing Compression board) then you can directly follow
the verification steps below.
If you are calibrating a Compression board that does not contain calibration information (e.g. you
have changed the Compression board, or have updated the software on the Compression board)
then you must manually move up the compression paddle and remove it, then perform Compres-
sion Thickness Calibration on page 1721 in Job Card CAL A050 - Compression Thickness Cali-
bration before you follow the verification steps below. If you do not perform these steps first then
you will witness a 121/003 COMPRESSION CALIB NOT ACHIEVED error.
1. After completing the compression calibration procedure, return to normal application mode.
2. If necessary, install the compression paddle.
3. Set the system as described above for calibration, with the external calibrated force detector in place
on the Bucky.
4. Apply compression to the external force detector. The applied compression force is measured by the
system and displayed on the Gantry readout.
5. Use the manual compression knobs to apply compressions of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 30 daN
For each value, check that the forces displayed on the external detector and on the Gantry readout
agree within ±1 daN.
CAUTION
After 27 daN, reach manually 30 daN using the compression knobs.
To avoid any disengaging mechanism, press the paddle at the same time.
6. If any result is out of range, repeat the calibration procedure.
