7 Immediately after assembly of bearing cone J install
shim G (if necessary), washer F and snap ring E
K Fig 77. ( T E-89). If new bearings have been used
it will be necessary to take a measurement as follows:
Fig 77.
Install washer F without shims and the smallest snap
ring E then, using a feeler gauge, measure the gap as
shown at Y. This measurement will determine which
snap ring size is needed and whether a shim is
required to achieve the correct bearing preload.
Service kits are available for both the snap ring and
the shims.
