NOTE: The calculaons in this topic represent the maximum power requirements that you need
to budget for your MX10004 router conguraon. The power consumpon of your router will be
less than the calculated results shown here. Power consumpon will vary based on the hardware
and soware conguraon of your router, the amount of trac passing through the line cards,
and environmental variables such as room temperature.
Before you begin these calculaons:
• Ensure that you understand the dierent router conguraons. See "MX10004 Components and
Conguraons" on page 11.
• Ensure that you know the power requirements of dierent router components. See "Power
Requirements for MX10004 Components" on page 88.
How to Calculate the Power Consumpon of Your MX10004 Router Conguraon
Use the following procedure to determine the maximum power you need to supply to the router. To
calculate maximum system power consumpon, you rst determine the combined maximum internal
power requirements of all the router components and then divide this result by the power supply output
power.

To calculate maximum system power consumpon:
1. Determine the maximum power consumpon of the base chassis components (that is, the
components other than the line cards). Use Table 33 on page 91 if your router is congured as
either the standard base or the redundant conguraon.
