The Roung and Control Board (RCB) is an integrated board and a single eld-replaceable unit (FRU)
that provides Roung Engine and Control Board (CB) funconality. The Roung Engine performs all
route-processing funcons, whereas the CB performs chassis control and management plane
funconality. The RCB provides control plane funcons. You can install one or two RCBs on the router.
Each RCB funcons as a unit.
The MX10004 Roung and Control Board (RCB) is responsible for system management in an MX10004
router (see Figure 26 on page 57). The chassis can run with one or two RCBs. The base conguraon
ships with one RCB, while a redundant conguraon ships with two RCBs. When two RCBs are installed,
one funcons as the primary and the second as a backup. If the primary RCB is removed, the backup
becomes the primary if graceful Roung Engine switchover (GRES) is congured.
