MX10004 Installaon Overview
The MX10004 is a rigid sheet-metal router-chassis. It houses the other hardware components such as
the Roung and Control Boards (RCBs), Switch Fabric Boards (SFBs), power supplies, fan trays, and line
cards. The router chassis ships in a cardboard box that has a two-layer wooden pallet base. The router
chassis is bolted to the pallet base. You can install an MX10004 router in a standard 19-in. (483-mm)
equipment rack by using the supplied rack-mount kit.
Perform the following steps to install the MX10004:
1. Unpack the router following the instrucons in "Unpack the MX10004 Router" on page 108.
2. Mount the chassis in the rack following the instrucons in "Mount the Juniper Networks MX10004
Router Using the JNP10004-RMK-4POST Rack-Mount Kit" on page 120.
Because of the weight of the chassis, we recommend mounng using a mechanical li. A mechanical
li is the easiest and safest method.

Chassis" on page 194.

Power" on page 134.
6. Install the ESD front door following the instrucons in "Install the Front Door on an MX10004
Router" on page 127.
7. Connect the router to the network.
To connect the router to a network for out-of-band management, follow instrucons in "Connect
the MX10004 Router to External Devices" on page 139.
To connect the router to a management console, follow instrucons in "Connect an MX10004
Router to a Management Console" on page 140.
