For gearbox models ZF 16S1820 ТО,
ZF 16S2220 ТD, ZF 16S2221 ТD gear shifting is ful-
filled according to the scheme (see Fig. Gear change
scheme for gearbox models ZF 16S1820 ТО, ZF 16S2220
ТD, ZF 16S2221 TD):
– 1-2-3-4 - low gears (the lower range of splitter);
– 5-6-7-8 - high gears (the high range of splitter).
When slowing down shift the gears only succes-
sively: 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1.
In motion, always keep the gear engaged.
Attention!
For gearboxes, it is strictly forbidden:
- to change from high range of the splitter onto
the lower one at speed more than 30 km/h;
- to drive with gearshift lever in neutral;
- to engage the reverse gear if the vehicle have
not stopped completely and while the clutch driven plate
is rotating.
The gears shift automatically in the splitter:
high gear engagement – with lever shifting from the forth
gear position to the fifth gear position, low gear engage-
ment – when shifting from the fifth to the forth gear.
After the low range is engaged in a splitter, the pi-
lot lamp lightens on the instrument panel
.
After the lever is shifted through position «» the
valve comes to operation which provides automatic shift-
ing in a splitter.
While shifting the splitter, the rod of main gearbox
shift lever is locked, whereby the effort is felt on the lev-
er. It is recommended to wait for 1-1,5 sec. after that to
provide gear shifting in the splitter.

– neutral of splitter low gear range;
– neutral of splitter high gear range;
– decelerating (low) gear in splitter;
– accelerating (high) gear in splitter
