3.4 Engaging the PTOs
3.4.1 Clutch-dependent PTOs
The PTOs can be operated with the vehicle standing or driving.
Only switch the PTO on and off with the vehicle standing
still.
Fully depress the clutch pedal at engine idle speed.
Switch on PTO.
Engage clutch slowly and move to operating speed.
NOTE
Grating noises when activating the PTO are not permissible.
Only engage PTO once the countershaft has come to a
complete stop. If the countershaft is not standing still, there
will be grating noises when engaging the PTO.
Runout times differ depending on the operating mode and
may be reduced by short, initial synchronization of 1st gear.
If required, wait longer before actuation.
CAUTION
Gear changes are not permissible when operating the PTO.
Always switch off the PTO when you park the vehicle for a
longer time (e.g. overnight).
Gear interlock (option)
A gear interlock is required:
when the vehicle must not be moved in any case while the
PTO is activated.
when the PTO must not be activated while driving. For this
reason, a pneumatic ZF gear interlock system is available
for all clutch-dependent PTOs which protects the vehicle
against operating mistakes. The system is activated auto-
matically.
