Remove a processor
Follow instructions in this section to remove a processor. This task requires a Torx T20 driver.
About this task
Important: This task must be operated by trained technicians that are certified by Lenovo Service. Do no
attempt to remove or install it without proper training and qualification.
Attention:
Read
“Installation Guidelines” on page 47 and “Safety inspection checklist” on page 48 to ensure that you
work safely.
Power off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. See
“Power off the server” on page 62.
Prevent exposure to static electricity, which might lead to system halt and loss of data, by keeping static-
sensitive components in their static-protective packages until installation, and handling these devices with
an electrostatic-discharge wrist strap or other grounding system.
Procedure
Figure 133. Removing a processor
Step 1. Use a Torx T20 screwdriver to loosen the screw.
Step 2. Slightly lift up the retention frame in the direction shown.
Step 3. Slightly lift up the rail frame in the direction shown. The processor in the rail frame is spring-loaded.
Step 4. Hold the blue tab of the processor carrier and slide the processor carrier out of the rail frame.
After you finish
If you are going to install a new processor, See
“Install a processor” on page 180.
If you are not going to install a processor, cover the processor socket with the socket cover and install a
processor filler.
