4. With these pairs of the transformed standard values c
i
and b
i
,
cubic spline polynomials are calculated between all points;
after this, automatic smoothing is applied when more than
one turning point or one or several points with a horizontal
tangent are found within the curve, provided the auto smooth
function has been enabled in the system configuration menu.
If the curve is not satisfactory, the entire spline calculation is
repeated several times, always with greater deviation in all
points than before - the first calculation is done without
deviation - until the above criteria are fulfilled and one gets
valid points that are connected by a curve. Optionally, this
curve can be printed out. The spline algorithm is described
on page 5, A.1.3.
5. With the above curve, all control and patient RLU are
transformed as soon as they have been measured, entered
or recalled as the standards before too, and then an
interpolation takes place: the system checks which
concentration is close enough to find the transformed RLU
again.
12 iterations are carried out, always according to the half-the-
distance principle of the last approach step. This leads to
about the same relative precision, i.e. about +/- 2 * 10
-4
or
better.
6. Overall, several hundreds of basic mathematical calculations
are done for each patient sample using an internal
mathematics with 24-bit mantissa in the IEEE format.
