Linear Encoders
A. Linear Encoders
1. A Linear Encoder is a sensor that is mounted on each of the X and Y-axes on
the dispensing head.
2. They keep track of the actual dispensing head position.
3. This information is supplied on a constant basis to the PMAC by way of the
Servo Interconnect PCA.
B. Linear Encoder Calibration
1. The LED on each linear encoder should be green when the axis is in motion.
2. If the LED turns red or orange when the axis is in motion, either the encoder
strip is dirty, or the encoder height needs adjusting.
First try cleaning the encoder strip with a soft cloth and mild cleanser.
If the problem does not go away, follow the instructions in Exercise 2-8-1
and 2-8-2 for adjusting the linear encoder gap.
3. It may be necessary to readjust the X and Y-axis linear encoder scanner-to-
scale gap if the dispensing system is moved or if you experience accuracy
problems during dispensing.
