Positional Sensors
A. Linear Encoders
1. Linear encoders supply positional information to the PMAC by way of the
Servo Interface PWA.
2. An encoder is mounted on both the X- and Y-axis, but not the Z-axis. They
keep track of the actual position of the Dispensing Head.
B. Rotary Encoders
1. Built into the servomotors, these encoders supply velocity and acceleration
information to the PMAC by way of the Servo Interface PWA.
2. They also interpret the velocity and acceleration information coming from the
PMAC to the motors.
C. Hall Sensors
1. Hall Sensors monitor the position of the Servo Motors.
2. As the motors rotate to move the Dispensing Head, these sensors monitor
the rotational position of the motors to determine the number of revolutions
and the direction the motor must travel in order to move to the commanded
position.
