Exercise Sheet 5-7-1
Removing/Installing the Main Interface PWA
Tools and Materials Needed:
Phillips Screwdriver 3/16-inch (5-mm) Nut Driver
ESD Grounding Strap Torque Wrench
ESD precautions must be taken while handling the cards or severe damage from
electrostatic discharge may occur.
All components and fasteners removed during this procedure should be retained in
an orderly manner and in a safe location for reinstallation or shipment back to
Asymtek.
Removing the Main Interface PWA
1. Perform a Service Shutdown as detailed on page 1-11 of this manual.
2. Remove the Computer from inside of the Lower Front Cabinet as specified in Exercise
Sheet 5-6-1 on page 5-34.
3. Lay the Computer down on its right side. Remove the 3/16-inch (5-mm) hex posts from
all of the D-sub connectors on the Main Interface Panel (See Diagram Sheet 5-7-1 on
page 5-42).
4. Unscrew the two captive, slotted thumbscrews on the left side of the Computer and
open the Main Interface Panel (See Diagram Sheet 5-6-1 on page 5-35).
5. Take note of where each cable is connected to the Main Interface PWA. Label the cables
and connections if necessary (See Diagram Sheet 5-7-1 on page 5-42).
6. Disconnect all of the cables attached to the Main Interface PWA.
7. Remove the three Phillips head screws attaching the Main Interface PWA to the inside of
the Computer Cover.
8. Remove the Main Interface PWA.
Installing the Main Interface PWA
Apply removable thread locker to all threaded fasteners unless otherwise noted.
1. Remove the new Main Interface PWA from its ESD protective bag.
2. Align the screw holes of the new Main Interface PWA to the screw posts on the cover.
3. Secure the new PWA to the inside of the cover with the three Phillips head hold-down
screws removed from the old PWA. Torque to 20 in-lbs (0.230 kg-m).
Do not overtighten the screws or the Board may be damaged.
4. Reattach all of the cables to the appropriate connections on the PWA.
5. Close the cover and tighten the two captive, slotted thumbscrews to secure the panel in
place. Do not use removable thread locker.
6. Reinstall the 3/16-inch (5-mm) hex posts on all of the connectors. Torque to 8 in-lbs
(0.09 kg-m).
9. Reinstall the Computer inside the Lower Front Cabinet by performing the steps specified
in Exercise Sheet 5-6-1 on page 5-34.
7. Perform a Post-Service Start-up as detailed on page 1-14 of this manual.
