Exercise Sheet 2-11-6
Probe Travel Adjustment
The optimal probe travel varies with the configuration of the workpiece and
the presence of obstacles in the dispensing area. The probe must retract
enough to avoid contacting the workpiece and colliding with dispensing
chamber obstacles such as Board Sensors and Stop Pins. However, the probe
retraction should not be so high as to jam the probe tip against the hub of the
dispensing needle or unnecessarily add to workpiece processing time.
To adjust the probe travel:
1. Verify the following:
 The probe is retracted
 The Dispensing Head is at the top of its Z-axis travel and at the front of the
dispensing chamber
 The dispensing needle that will be used for dispensing has been installed
2. Press
OFF (0) on the Operator’s Console and open the Hatch.
3. Using a 0.050-inch hex key, loosen the probe travel locking screw.
4. Using a 7/64-inch hex key, turn the probe travel adjustment screw until the
distance between the probe tip and needle tip is approximately equal to the
distance between beginning of the probe bend and the tip of the probe.
 To reduce the stroke length, turn the adjustment screw to the left.
 To increase the stroke length, turn the adjustment screw to the right.
5. When the probe travel has been adjusted, lightly tighten the setscrew.
6. If necessary to reestablish the probe-to-needle distances shown in Diagram
Sheet 2-11-5, make adjustments as discussed earlier in this section.
