CHART 7101. TROUBLESHOOTING (ENGINE)
Failure of engine to start. Lack of fuel. Check fuel system for leaks.
Fill fuel tank.
Clean dirty lines, strainers,
or fuel valves.
Underpriming. Prime with two or three
strokes of primer.
Overpriming. Leave ignition OFF and
mixture control in IDLE
CUT-OFF. Open throttle and
unload engine by cranking
for a few seconds. Turn igni-
tion switch ON and proceed
to start in a normal manner.
Incorrect throttle setting. Open throttle to one-tenth
of its range.
Defective spark plugs. Clean and adjust or replace
spark plug or plugs.
Defective ignition wire. Check with electric tester
and replace any defective
wires.
Improper operation of mag- Check internal timing of
neto breaker points. magnetos.
Check points.
Intemal failure. Check oil screens for
metal particles. If found,
complete overhaul of the
engine may be indicated.
Improper switch wiring for Reverse magneto switch
left magneto starting. wires.
Magnetized impulse cou- Demagnetize impulse cou-
pling - left magneto only. plings.
Frozen spark plug Replace spark plugs or dry
electrodes. out removed plugs.
