10.3.1 CALIBRATING THE COMPASS
The AV has a magnetometer that detects strength and direction of Earth’s magnetic
fields. This data is used to detect magnetic North and the AV’s heading.
To calibrate the compass:
1. Connect the AV and GCS.
2. Touch the Main menu icon.
3. Select Vehicle Setup.
4. Select Sensors.
5. Select Compass to calibrate the magnetometer.
6. Click OK in the top right of the screen to begin.
7. The first tone from the AV alerts you to begin.
8. Follow the rotation instructions on the GCS screen.
9. Select Reboot Vehicle when finished. This step is highly recommended. Not
rebooting the AV may cause erratic behavior.
10. Reestablish connection between the GCS and the AV.
10.3.2 CALIBRATING THE GYROSCOPE
The AV has a gyroscope that measures AV orientation and angular velocity for pitch, roll,
and yaw.
To calibrate the gyroscope:
1. Connect the AV and GCS.
2. Touch the Main menu icon.
3. Select Vehicle Setup.
4. Select Sensors.
5. Place the AV on a flat, level surface.
6. Select Gyroscope.
7. Click OK in the top right of the screen to begin.
10.3.3 CALIBRATING THE ACCELEROMETER
The AV has an accelerometer that measures acceleration and can detect vibrations within
the AV.
To calibrate the accelerometer:
1. Connect the AV and GCS.
2. Touch the Main menu icon.
3. Select Vehicle Setup.
4. Select Sensors.
5. Place the AV on a flat, level surface.
6. Select Accelerometer.
7. Click OK in the top right of the screen to begin.
8. Follow the instructions on the GCS screen. As each orientation completes, move the
AV into the next position as prompted on the GCS screen. When all six positions are
complete, you may return to Fly View.
