ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
10I-27
If the other coil tests are satisfactory, the component
needs to be tested to determine if the fluid is present at
the solenoid and if the poppet or plunger is moving to
allow the fluid to flow through the component.
Use the electrical schematics in Section 10M to find the
solenoid and the wiring harness connections to be
tested.
Use the hydraulic schematics in Section 8N and the
engine manufacturer’s manual to find the fluid flow for
components.
Solenoid Test
Test the solenoid valves as follows:
1. Shut down the engine, place the ignition switch in
the RUN position, and release the parking brake.
Figure 10I-6. Solenoid Power Test
2. Place the mow switch in the ON position. An audi-
ble “click” should be heard in the solenoid valve. If
no “click” is heard, continue with the test. If a
“click” is heard, the problem may be in the hydrau-
lic control valve. See Section 8 for control valve
information.
3. Remove the connector from the solenoid valve.
4. Set the multimeter to the 20 volts DC scale.
5. Connect the test leads: red test lead to dark blue/
white wire at the wiring harness connector and
black test lead to the black wire. Place the mow
switch in the ON position.
The multimeter displays battery voltage. If no volt-
age is indicated, connect the black test lead to the
battery negative terminal and red test lead to the
solenoid dark blue/white wire to check solenoid
ground connection. If no voltage is indicated,
check the wiring harness circuit using the electri-
cal schematics in Section 10M.
6. Set the multimeter to the 200
(Ohms) scale.
7. Connect the test leads to the solenoid socket.
The multimeter should indicate approximately
7.3
(Ohms).
If the coil is not within range, replace the coil.
If there is no resistance indication on the multime-
ter, replace the coil.
