Adjusting Fan Belt Tension
• Be sure to stop engine before checking belt tension.
1. Stop the engine and remove the key.
2. Apply moderate thumb pressure to belt between pulleys.
3. If tension in incorrect, loosen the alternator mounting bolts and,
using a lever placed between the alternator and the engine
block, pull the alternator out until the deflection of the belt falls
within acceptable limits.
4. Replace fan belt if it is damaged.

Adjusting Brake Pedal Free Travel
To avoid personal injury:
• Stop the engine and chock the wheels before checking
brake pedal.
1. Release the parking brake.
2. Slightly depress the brake pedals (1) and measure free travel at
top of pedal stroke.
3. If the measurement is not within the factory specifications,
loosen the lock nut (2) and turn the adjust nut (3) to adjust the
brake rod length.
4. Retighten the lock nut (2) securely.
5. Keep the free travel in the right and left brake pedals equal.
• After checking brake pedal free travel, be sure to engage
the parking brake lever fully and check to see that the brake
pedals are securely locked.

Fan belt tension Factory specification
A deflection of between
7.0 to 9.0 mm
(0.28 to 0.35 in.) when the
belt is pressed in the
middle of the span.
