ZIP2x2 User’s Manual
To access this panel, select Menu | Pswd Settings | Audio | Encryption.
This example shows five rows, though in practice the display can show only three rows at once.
As you press the Up and Down keys, the display scrolls through the list of choices.
• Normally on and Normally off allows you to select an encryption mode during a phone call.
When normally on is selected, the phone attempts to establish a secure connection; when
normally off is selected, the phone attempts to establish an unencrypted connection. The user
has final control of the encryption mode through the use of the Encrypt button.
• Always on requires all calls involving the phone to be encrypted. Calls to other phones that do
not support encryption can not be established. The user has no control of the encryption mode
at the time of the call.
Important If you select always on and the phone system does not support encryption, users
can make calls from one phone to another but cannot make calls to the PSTN,
receive calls from the PSTN, hear music on hold, or receive voice mail.
Danger If you select always on and the phone system does not support encryption, users
cannot dial emergency services from the phone.
• Never on requires all calls involving the phone to be unencrypted. Calls to other phones that
require encryption can not be established. The user has no control of the encryption mode at
the time of the call.
8.5.6.3 Distinctive Ring
This parameter specifies the use of a single ring tone for all received calls or separate ring tones
for internal and external calls. When this parameter is set to Allow, the User Settings | Audio
menu provides panels that change the external and internal ring tones. When this parameter is
set to do not allow, the User Settings | Audio provides access to a panel that provides a single
command that sets the ring tone setting for both internal and external calls. See section 8.4.5 on
page 91 for instructions on setting the internal and external ring tone.
To access this panel, select Menu | Pswd Settings | Audio | Separate Rings.
