6.5.1 Quality of Service
The phone displays the voice quality of your call on the bottom left corner of the LCD when the
display is in normal mode. The Quality of Service Indicator is a QoS icon, followed by a maximum
of four signal bars. Press the OK key if this indicator does not appear on your LCD during a call.
The number of bars that the QoS indicator displays reflects the voice packet loss in the network,
which directly affects the voice quality during the call:
• four bars are present: no packet loss, voice quality is normal
• three bars are present: you may hear some clicks
• two bars are present: you will hear many clicks
• one bar is present: voice will sound garbled
• no bars are present: voice is almost unrecognizable
6.5.2 Mute
If you want to hear the person with whom you are speaking, but do not want him or her to hear
you, press the Mute button. The phone disconnects the microphone input and flashes the LED
on the Mute button red for 500 ms and off for 500 ms. The phone does not change the display. To
resume a 2-way conversation, press the Mute button again.
When you have pressed the Mute button so that the LED is flashing, you have muted the entire
phone, not just the current conversation. If you place the muted call on hold, and select another
call, the mute function remains active and the person on the other call will not be able to hear you.
If you terminate the call with the Mute function still active, the Mute function remains active until
you disable it.
1
When you mute the phone and press the digit keys, the phone plays the DTMF digit into the
audio path you have selected and sends the digit to the switch. You might use this feature to
communicate with an IVR system.
6.5.3 Hold
The Hold function allows you to maintain the state of a call but suspend the conversation. The
person cannot hear you and you cannot hear the other person.
2
When you place a call on hold, you must retrieve the call from your same phone to resume the
conversation.
