8.5.6 Audio
This selection allows you to control the way speech and ringing tones are handled on the phone.
The phone is supplied with four standard tones to announce ringing that most businesses will
find acceptable. The phone can also use other WAV files when emitting a ringing tone. Audio
settings determine the choices that are available for the phone’s ringing tones.
To configure the audio properties:
1. If you have not already done so, enter the password as described in section 8.5.1 on page 103
so that you have rights to make the changes.
2. Select Menu | Pswd Settings | Audio.
3. The display changes to:
This example shows five rows, though in practice the display can show only three rows at
once. As you press the Up and Down keys, the display scrolls through the list of choices.
4. Press the OK button to select the specified parameter.
8.5.6.1 Codec
This parameter defines the method the phone uses to encode speech. Normally, you should select
G.711-µ law for North America and Japan, and G.711-A law everywhere else. The phone also
provides G.729A and G.729AB codecs for networks where bandwidth may be restricted.
To access this panel, select Menu | Pswd Settings | Audio | Codec.
8.5.6.2 Encryption
This parameter specifies the use of encryption. This selection modifies the way encryption is
engaged as described in section 7.4 on page 73.
