The EGR Test function lets you perform a check of the vehicle’s Exhaust
Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. The test is performed in two phases.
1. Select EGR Test in the Active Test menu, then press ENTER .
n An “informational” screen displays.
2. Choose Continue to proceed.
If DTCs are present in the vehicle’s computer, an “advisory”
screen displays. Clear DTCs before proceeding.
n A series of “instructional” screens display. Choose Continue as
necessary to scroll the screens. Perform the following as directed:
- Start and idle the engine.
- Maintain engine speed below 1500 RPM.
3. A “status” screen displays while test
phase 1 is in progress.
n The Status screen shows the EGR
valve lift voltage (EGR V L S).
- If conditions are out-of-range for
EGR control, an “advisory”
message displays. Choose Back to
return to the Active Test menu.
- If the EGR system fails test phase 1, an “advisory” message
displays. Choose Back to return to the Active Test menu.
n If the EGR system passes test phase 1, an “instructional” screen
displays. Prepare the vehicle for test as directed:
- Warm the engine to normal operating temperature.
- Make sure all vehicle electrical devices are OFF.
- Make sure the steering wheel is in the center position, and DO
NOT move during testing.
4. Choose Continue to proceed.
If DTCs are present in the vehicle’s computer, an “advisory”
screen displays. Clear DTCs before proceeding.
n An “instructional” screen displays. Perform the following.
- Press and hold the accelerator to maintain engine speed
between 2400-3500 RPM.
