The Sampler Cycle
All versions of the ALS perform the same basic operations (Table 13).

1 Transport the sample vial. • If necessary, move the sample vial
from the tray to the turret.
2 Wash the syringe with solvent. a Rotate a solvent bottle under the
syringe.
b Lower the syringe needle into the
solvent.
c Draw in solvent.
d Raise the syringe needle out of the
solvent bottle.
e Rotate a waste bottle under the
syringe.
f Lower the syringe. Depress the
plunger to discard solvent.
g Raise the syringe needle out of the
waste vial.
• The syringe can be washed several
times and with more than one
solvent. This is controlled by the
solvent pre-wash parameters.
3 Wash the syringe with sample. a Rotate the sample vial under the
syringe.
b Lower the syringe needle so that
the needle pierces the vial septum
and enters the sample.
c Draw in sample.
d Raise the syringe and needle out of
the solvent bottle.
e Rotate a waste bottle under the
syringe.
f Lower the syringe needle. Depress
the plunger to discard sample.
g Raise the syringe needle out of the
waste vial.
• The syringe can be rinsed with
sample several times.
