Bringing Up a Single-Chassis System for the First Time
Site Planning, Equipment Unpacking, and Router Installation
Each router shipment includes a minimal set of printed documentation that includes instructions for
unpacking the router and preparing the site where the router will be installed. For information on the
complete set of hardware and software documentation, refer to the “Related Documents” section on
page xii.
Bringing Up a Single-Chassis System for the First Time
This section provides instructions for booting a Cisco CRS-1 router for the first time. All new systems
are shipped with the basic Cisco IOS XR software loaded onto disk0:. Because the required software is
installed on the router, the initial bring up is a simple process of powering on the system, entering the
initial system configuration settings, and verifying the system components.
After these tasks are completed, the router is operational, and you can continue to install additional
software and perform advanced configuration. The following sections provide information related to
bringing up a system:
• Powering On a Single-Chassis System for the First Time, page 4-3
• Entering the Initial Configuration Using the Setup Mode Prompts, page 4-5
• Verifying the System After Initial Bring Up, page 4-9
• Examples of show Commands, page 4-9
