Chapter 8 Configuring VLANs
Using VTP
Disabling VTP (VTP Transparent Mode)
When you configure the switch for VTP transparent mode, you disable VTP on
the switch. The switch then does not send VTP updates and does not act on VTP
updates received from other switches. However, a VTP transparent switch does
forward received VTP advertisements on all of its trunk links.
Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to configure the switch
for VTP transparent mode:
Command Purpose
Step 1
vlan database Enter VLAN database mode.
Step 2
vtp transparent Configure the switch for VTP transparent mode.
The default setting is VTP server.
This step disables VTP on the switch.
Step 3
exit Return to privileged EXEC mode.
Step 4
show vtp status Verify the VTP configuration.
In the display, check the VTP Operating Mode field.
