SmartDate X40 BFSE Version 1.0 Feb 2011
86/286
Remember to re-set the changed settings back to their original values when you have
completed the procedure.
Encoder Resolution
The encoder setup is configured from the Engineering Mode settings menu screen.
SmartDate X40 requires the encoder to provide:
Between 2.8 - 150 pulses per mm of substrate travel
The output to connect an NPN open collector output, operating at 24 V DC
The SmartDate X40 configurable encoder standard setting is 613 pulses per revolution
and has a 63.6mm tracking wheel diameter (200mm circumference), producing 3.05
pulses per millimeter. (This is the Printer default setting)
High Resolution Encoder Setting
Some applications require a high resolution encoder setting is used to maintain print
quality.
For example:
Applications that accelerate from low speeds can suffer from vertical distortion
on the image printed due to a speed mismatch
Applications where print speeds lower than 70mm/s are seen during the print
cycle
Note: With images longer than 50mm the encoder must be calibrated using the process
described above.
When changing the standard SmartDate X40 encoder (613 pulses per resolution) to a
high resolution setting (6122 pulses per resolution), adjust the encoder resolution setting of
the Printer from 3.05mm to 30.5mm.
