Note:
During operaon, if the temperature of any surface of the pump is higher than 60 °C, the
cooling is inadequate and should be increased. Pump performance may be aected if you do
not cool the pump and nEXT85 motor controller adequately.
Edwards recommends that, wherever possible, the pump is cooled by forced air cooling or
water cooling.
Select the cooling type required according to the ambient temperature:
• Natural convecon cooling: For some light pumping dues, with an ambient air
temperature less than 35 °C, natural convecon cooling may be adequate to cool the
nEXT85 pump.
• Forced air cooling: The ambient air temperature must be 5 °C to 40 °C when using
forced air cooling. Ensure that there is an adequate supply of cooling air to the pump.
• Water cooling: Use water cooling with higher load applicaons or when using a
bakeout band (CF variants only). When using water cooling, ambient air temperature
must be less than 40 °C and the water temperature must be between 10 °C and 40 °C.
Refer to Table 38 on page 86 for further performance informaon.
Forced air cooling
The customer controller can be
congured to drive an air cooler only if commands can be sent
via the serial interface or an Edwards TIC Turbo and Instrument Controller or Turbo Controller.
Air cooling accessories are available for nEXT85 pumps (refer to Accessories for the nEXT85 on
page 78). Fit the air cooler as described in the instrucon manual supplied with it. If an
alternave fan is used for air cooling, ensure that the ow rate is above 100 m
3
h
-1
(60 cfm).
The air cooler can be powered by a customer external power supply, the Edwards TIC Turbo
and Instrument Controller, the TIC Turbo Controller or the nEXT85 Controller. Plug the
connector into the socket at the side of the controller (refer to Figure 8 on page 47).
Water cooling
An accessory is available to enable the pump to be water cooled. Fit the water cooler as
described in the instrucons supplied with it.
Ensure that the water supply is constant and within the quality, temperature and ow rate
limits specied in Table 2 on page 34.
CAUTION:
In the event of coolant failure, the pump must be allowed to cool down to ambient
temperature before restarng.
CAUTION:
Condensaon may occur if a water cooling block is used in high humidity environments.
Protect the pump and other equipment by considering the design of the installaon.
Pipes in the water cooling circuit may become blocked if the cooling water contains too much
calcium carbonate or if it contains parcles that are too large. Corrosion of the water cooling
circuit may occur if there is too lile calcium carbonate and oxygen in the water. Good quality
drinking water is usually suitable. If in doubt, check the quality of the cooling water supply and,
if necessary, provide treatment and ltraon.
