Programmer’s Guide
Serial Ports
The switchers have two serial ports that can be connected to a host device such as a
computerrunningtheHyperTerminalutility,anRS-232capablePDA,oracontrol
system. These ports make serial control of the switcher possible. The serial ports
are:
•TherearpanelRemote(RS-232orRS-422)port,a9-pinDfemaleconnector
•ThefrontpanelConguration(RS-232)port,a2.5mmministereojack
The default protocol for both ports is as follows:
•9600baud • noparity • 8-bit
•1stopbit • noowcontrol
Theportscanbeconguredtooperateatthe9600,19200,38400,or115200baud
rate.
N
These two ports are independent of one another. A front panel Configuration
port connection and a rear panel RS-232/RS-422 port connection can both be
active at the same time.
N
Extron recommends leaving both ports at 9600 baud only.

The rear panel RS-232/RS-422 port can support either RS-232 or RS-422 serial
communication protocol, and can operate at 9600, 19200, 38400, or 115200
baud rates. See “Selecting the rear panel RS-232/RS-422 port protocol and baud
rate” in chapter 3, “Operation”, to configure the rear panel RS-232/RS-422 port
from the front panel.
