The 503 and Other V System Cameras and Components 133
The Hasselblad shutter lenses should be stored with the shutter in the cocked position.
There are no parts in the shutter that wear out if the shutter is left in this position.
These suggestions for mounting and removing lenses also apply to bellows, teleconvert-
ers, and extension tubes with or without electronic coupling. But with these accessories, you
must also remove the components from the camera in the proper sequence. Always remove
the lens fi rst from the converter, tube, or bellows. Then remove the accessory from the cam-
era body. You can remove lens and accessory together from the camera, but never remove a
lens from the accessory without the components attached to the camera. It may uncock the
shutter and jam the lens and accessory together.
Removing and Attaching Film Magazines and Digital Sensor Units
Hasselblad fi lm magazines, with or without electronic contacts, can be removed from all cam-
era bodies, whether they are loaded with fi lm or not and whether the fi lm has been advanced
or not. They can be removed, however, only when the darkslide is inserted completely. A
darkslide in the magazine also prevents accidental releasing of the camera (Figure 6-7). Digital
sensor units are attached and removed in the same fashion.
Remove and attach fi lm magazines as described in Figure 6-8. Before attaching a maga-
zine, try to turn the winding crank. Turn it, if possible, to ascertain that the camera is in the
ready position. Before you attach a magazine with loaded fi lm check whether or not the fi lm
has been advanced. If the round window on the frame counter side is white, the fi lm has
been advanced; if it is red, the fi lm has not been advanced. If so, attach the magazine to a
camera body that also has not been cocked. Turn the winding crank with the darkslide in the
magazine, then remove the darkslide. You can check whether there is fi lm in the magazine by
looking at the fi lm consumption window on the other side of the magazine. If it is all or par-
tially red, it contains fi lm. If it is all chrome, it is empty.
Attaching and removing magazines with PM 90 viewfi nders on the camera requires a spe-
cial operation (Figure 6-9).
Operating the Instant Film Magazine
The newer instant fi lm magazines can be used on all newer camera models; the older, discon-
tinued type 80 can be used only on 500C and 500ELs models. Neither type can be used on
Figure 6-6 (6) Lenses can be attached only if the slot or ridge on the coupling shaft (A) is lined
up with the dots (B) on the camera body and lens. If the camera slot is not lined up, turn the
winding knob, or, on the EL models, change from the pre-released to the normal position. (7) If
the slot in the lens is not lined up, insert a coin in the slot and make one full turn clockwise.
