The 503 and Other V System Cameras and
Components
DIGITAL IMAGING WITH V SYSTEM CAMERAS
You can produce fi lm images in the square or rectangular format with all V system camera
models. Digital imaging has not outdated theses cameras originally made for fi lm photography.
By simply replacing the fi lm magazine with a Hasselblad digital back the V system cameras, at
least the more recent models, make excellent tools for digital imaging. You can also produce
digital images in the square or rectangular format depending on which digital back you attach
to the camera. You can produce square images in the 36.7 36.7 mm size with the Hasselblad
CFV and CFVII 16 Mpixel CFV sensor units. They fi t directly to the rear of the cameras like a
fi lm magazine. See Chapter 12 for different digital backs used on 200 camera models. You can
produce larger rectangular images in the 36.7 49.0 mm size with Hasselblad digital sensor
units CF 22 with 22 Mpixels or the CF 39 unit with 39 Mpixels. The CF digital sensor units
go on all the different cameras in combination with an adapter that varies with the camera
model. Some cameras also require an exposure cable or a Flash sync input cable, and the 200
and 2000 camera models need a slight camera modifi cation if used with F lenses. The 503CW
must be operated with the CW motor winder. Consult Hasselblad for exact details. The sen-
sor units are described in further detail in Chapter 3. Hasselblad also has a complete digital V
system camera package consisting of the 503CWD camera with CFVII 16 Mpixel digital back,
80 mm Planar lens, focusing screen with digital image format markings, and accessories for
digital imaging.
HASSELBLAD 500 CAMERA MODELS
All Hasselblad cameras in the 500 series are identical in the interchangeability of their com-
ponents and in the use and operation of lenses and magazines (Figure 6-1). All are completely
mechanical, battery-independent, SLR cameras with shutter lenses. A rear curtain protects the
image plane from light before and after an exposure is made. The 500C and 500EL cameras
made prior to 1970 do not have interchangeable focusing screens. The Classic is basically a
500CM without a removable winding crank and an 80 mm Planar lens engraved C that does
not have the F setting and the interlock between the aperture and the shutter speed ring.
