for digital imaging as well as fi lm photography.
FOCUSING SCREENS
Focusing Screens for Digital Imaging with H Camera Models
The original H camera models and the H2F model are equipped with a standard Acute Matte
focusing screen HS standard that shows the area of the 6 4.5 fi lm format. This screen is also
available as an HS grid accessory screen with a grid pattern.
The Hasselblad digital backs that can be attached to these cameras for digital imaging
come with a mask that can be placed over the focusing screen to show the area coverage of
the digital sensor.
The H3D and H3DII digital cameras have an Acute Matte focusing screen that shows the
image area of the digital sensor unit on the camera. The H3D-22/39 and H3D-31 screens are
also available as accessories with grid lines (see Figure 7-1). If you use the H3D cameras for
lm photography and like to see the full area coverage of the 6 4.5 fi lm format, you need to
purchase an Acute Matte screen for this fi lm format. Also read Chapter 4 for more details.
Focusing Screens for Digital Imaging with V System Hasselblad and Other Cameras
The Hasselblad 503CWD camera equipped with a CFV or CFVII digital back comes with an
Acute Matte screen that shows the 2¼ square fi lm area but has engraved lines for the 36.7
36.7 area of the digital sensor.
The Hasselblad CFV digital sensor units that can be attached to all V system camera
bodies come with a mask that can be placed over the focusing screen to show the digital sen-
sor area.
The CF 39 and CF 22 digital sensor units that attach to Hasselblad medium-format and
large view cameras in combination with an adapter are supplied with a mask for the viewing
screen that corresponds to the adapter purchased with the digital back. You use the regular
focusing screen in the camera for viewing and focusing. More details about the digital sensor
units are found in Chapter 3.
The Acute Matte Focusing Screen
All Hasselblad cameras made since 1998 are supplied with an Acute Matte screen. The very
latest 500 models are also equipped with a split-image rangefi nder and a microprism version.
The Acute Matte design consists of an acrylic focusing screen with a fi ne Fresnel pattern and
microlenses. These provide remarkably high brightness over the entire surface and a high res-
olution that helps to achieve accurate focusing in any type of photography in any lighting
situation (Figure 7-2).
