THE GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM
Photographers seem to like the possibility of imprinting data, lens used, aperture and shutter
speed setting, date and time when the picture is taken, and other information on the edge of
the fi lm. This can be done with the imprinting system in H camera fi lm magazines. Many pho-
tographers would also like to imprint the location where the picture is taken on the image.
Satellites that were originally launched for military purposes have made this possible, and the
Hasselblad H3D cameras can record these data as part of the digital image capture informa-
tion. The very small accessory that is necessary for this purpose is attached to the service
port on the front side of the camera. The camera can now record the GPS coordinates and
the longitude and latitude of the camera’s position as an invisible part of the image to the fi le
together with the other data and will remain there until overwritten or deleted. The thumb-
nail of the image also shows the location, and you can download Google Earth and see a map
showing the exact location of the camera.
