80 THE HASSELBLAD MANUAL
shutter is in the lens. Lens shutters, where the shutter blades open and close around the opti-
cal axis of the lens, are recognized as creating less camera motion than the focal plane types
where a shutter curtain moves vertically or horizontally across the image area. The mirror
motion in the H camera models is also beautifully dampened.
Deleting the Last Image On H3DII cameras, the last digital image deletion has been implemented
to the customizable button function list so the last image can be deleted conveniently either
by pressing the User, the AE-L, the Stop Down or the M.UP button provided the regular proce-
dure is used on the sensor unit without any special intervening action.
THE USER BUTTON FUNCTIONS
You can use the User button function for the following operations (most of them are obvi-
ous and need no further explanation): None, if not desired (the default setting); Standby; Stop
Down (lens aperture); Flash Measure; Interval Timer; Multi Exposure; Self-Timer; Bracketing;
AF Drive (drive lens in MF or AF); Mirror Up; B mode; T mode; Show Histogram (recall last
histogram); Gray Balance Exposure; Delete Last Image (for digital work with digital backs that
are equipped accordingly); Dig. Foc Check, which enlarges the image on a digital back with
built-in monitor and is designed for this application; and Cycle LM mode, which allows you
to switch instantly from Spot to CentreWeighted to Average metering by simply pressing the
User button repeatedly.
Keep in mind that only one of these functions can be programmed for the User button.
The functions Show Histogram, Delete Last Image, Dig. Foc Check, and Gray Balance Exposure
work only with digital backs that are equipped accordingly. Keep in mind the shortcut for
programming the User button: click the Menu button and then click the User button.
Figure 4-26 Mirror delay. This new custom option on H3DII cameras allows you to program
an extra mirror delay up to 200 milliseconds, which reduces the danger of mirror motion
affecting the image.
