84 THE HASSELBLAD MANUAL
be used on most V system Hasselblad cameras without any special cable connections. They
need a Flash sync input cable for use with ArcBody, FlexBody on 2000 and 2003, and 201, 203,
and 205 cameras equipped with C type lenses. Computer control may aso require a cable.
The CF Digital Backs
The CF digital backs are attached to Hasselblad H or V system camera models or to other
medium and large format cameras by means of an adapter that varies depending on the camera
model. This design makes it possible to use the same digital back on different types of cameras.
There are four different adapters for Hasselblad cameras. The H adapter is for H camera
models that accept this digital back. The EL, ELM, and ELX adapter is used in combination with
ELX exposure cable on 500EL, 500ELM, and 500 and 553 ELX models. The 503CW adapter
is used in combination with 503CW exposure cable on 503 cameras equipped with motor
winders. The ELD adapter is for the 555ELD and in combination with a Flash sync cable for
the FlexBody, ArcBody, 500, 501, and 503 camera models, all Superwide models, on 2000 and
2003 and 201, 203, and 205 models with C type lenses. Consult the Hasselblad Web site for
the adapter type needed for other medium or large format cameras or for more details about
attaching the digital back to different cameras.
The CF digital backs are also supplied with a protective cover that is attached with four
screws and detached by removing the screws with the supplied screwdriver. After the plate is
removed you must attach the adapter that is made for your particular camera model. Position
the adapter on the digital back in the proper fashion and secure with the four supplied
screws. The adapter is now part of the sensor unit. It must be removed and changed only
when the same sensor unit is used on another camera that needs a different adapter. Attach
the adapter/digital back combination to the camera. The CF backs have Databus connections
for ELD and modifi ed 202, 203, and 205 camera models. Always attach the cover plate to a
detached back to protect the sensor from dust, dirt, and damage.
SENSOR UNITS ON DIFFERENT CAMERAS
When CF and CFV digital backs are used on any Hasselblad camera, the camera type must
be programmed into the digital back. With CF sensor units, the cameras that appear on the
screen depend on the adapter that is attached to the sensor unit. You only see the camera
models that work with that particular adapter. Here are all the possible options.
● 500 Setting: For use with 500C/CM, 501C/CM, and 503CX/CXi/CW models. If the 503 is
equipped with a motor winder, set to Winder CW.
● Winder CW: For use with 503CW camera models equipped with winder. To control the camera
from the computer and FlexColor or Phocus connect exposure cable 503 between the digital
back and winder. Do not use the winder at the rapid sequence setting.
● ELD: For ELD cameras using the A or AS setting on the camera. No rapid sequences are possible.
If battery power is necessary in location work, you need the adapter EL to bring the battery
behind the motor compartment as described under Power Supply, later in this chapter.
● ELX Setting: For use with 500EL and ELM and 500/553 ELX models. Connect the exposure cable
ELX between the motor housing and the digital back on all EL models.
