bright image on the focusing screen for focusing and image evaluation. For photography, use
apertures f/11 or smaller.
CLOSE-UP PHOTOGRAPHY WITH THE FLEXBODY
The front frame that holds the lens on the FlexBody can be moved forward as much as 22 mm
for close-up photography. Moved to 22 mm, it produces the same results as a 22 mm extension
tube would with the same lens on other Hasselblad V system cameras. I suggest using this
close-up extension only for close-up photography. For photography at normal distances, move
the front frame all the way to the rear and focus the lens with its focusing ring.
VIEWING, FOCUSING, AND EVALUATING THE IMAGE
On both cameras, the image is evaluated on the focusing screen adapter, in combination with
either any Hasselblad V system camera viewfi nder or the special RMfx Refl ex nder, which
shows the 3.3 magnifi ed image right side up. When you tilt or shift, the image on the top or
bottom of the screen darkens because your eye is no longer aligned in the optical axis. The
Fresnel slides supplied with both cameras solve this problem. The slides are inserted into the
adapter either from the left or right. The darkening does not happen on the fi lm or digital back.
TAKING A PICTURE WITH THE FLEXBODY AND ARCBODY
After the image plane is adjusted, the lens focused, and the aperture and shutter speeds set on
the lens, remove the focusing screen adapter, and attach the digital back or fi lm magazine but
do not remove the darkslide (see Figure 13-9).
Then proceed as follows:
1. Attach the supplied cable release, and press the release halfway. You will hear the lens shutter
closing.
2. Remove the darkslide in a fi lm magazine.
3. Press the release completely. The shutter opens and closes to make the exposure.
4. Insert the darkslide in a fi lm magazine before you do anything else. Make certain you do not
cock the shutter before the darkslide is in the magazine. That would expose the fi lm to light.
5. Recock the shutter.
6. Advance the fi lm in a fi lm magazine (using the fi lm winding crank on the FlexBody).
The ArcBody operation is identical, but you must also operate the open/close lever for the
shutter on the lens. Use the central neutral density fi lter with the 35 mm and 45 mm lenses to
achieve even brightness over the entire image area (discussed in Chapter 14).
