extension tubes and bellows, not to the Proxar lenses.
Using the V System Charts for Digital Imaging
All the fi gures in the V system close-up charts are for the 6 6 square format or the long side
of the 6 4.5 fi lm format.
To use these charts for digital imaging, I suggest that you use the following approach:
To determine the lens and close-up accessory needed to cover a specifi c size area multi-
ply the long side of that area by the following fi gures.
1.1 (1.12) for the 36.7 49.0 sensor
1.2 (1.2) for the 33.1 44. 2 sensor
1.5 for the 36.7 36. 7 sensor
Find the resulting fi gures on the charts where you then fi nd all the close-up information for
that specifi c value.
Example: Area that you need to cover with a 120 mm Makro-Planar is 4 in. (100 mm).
Multiplied by above fi gures the long dimension to use on the chart is 4 3/4 in. (120 mm) for
the 33.1 44.2 sensor. The 120-mm close-up chart shows that this area can be covered with
a 32 mm extension tube.
To determine what areas can be covered with a specifi c lens and extension tube combi-
nation proceed as follows. Take the fi gures from the maximum size of subject line and
For the 36.7 49.0 sensor multiply by 0.9 (exact fi gure 0.89)
For the 33.1 44, 2 sensor multiply by 0.8
For the 36.7 36.7 sensor multiply by 0.7 (exact fi gure 0.66)
Example: The 120 mm Makro-Planar set at infi nity covers an area about 8 in. (200 mm) with
extension tube 32. The same lens and tube combination with the lens set at infi nity covers an
area about 7¼ in. (180 mm) on the large 36.7 49.0 sensor, about 6½ inches (160 mm) on
the 33.1 44.2 sensor, and about 5½ inches (140 mm) on the 36.7 36. 7 sensor.
HOW TO USE THE H SYSTEM CLOSE-UP CHARTS
All the necessary information for using the H system extension tubes successfully with differ-
ent lenses on the H camera are shown in the Chart. All Charts A are inches. All Charts B are in
the metric system.
Charts A1 and B1 show the subject-to-image plane distances D the distances from the
subject to the front of the lens, the working distances O, the magnifi cation m and and the
necessary exposure increase R (needed only when using a separate meter) for the different
lenses and different extension tubes. The data in these charts apply to the fi lm format and the
different sensor sizes.
