Operating the H Cameras for Digital and Film Photography 81
FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
Using electronic fl ash with H camera models and operating the cameras in fl ash photography
is described in the Chapter 18.
THE USE AND OPERATION OF PROFILES
The H camera profi les allow you to store and save a number of functions collectively in the
camera and then allow rapid access to the stored combinations of camera settings and func-
tions when needed. You do not have to program each function separately each time it is
needed. Profi les also allow you to switch from one to the other instantly. For example, for
outdoor people pictures, you may want to program the camera for Spot metering, A exposure
mode, Fill Flash, and Auto Focus. For landscapes of moving elements, such as water, refl ec-
tions, wind-blown trees, and fl owers, you may select CentreSpot metering, S exposure mode,
and Auto Focus. With the profi les in your camera you simply load the desired profi le to set the
camera accordingly.
These four profi les are factory-programmed into the camera. They become visible by
clicking the Profi les/Esc button:
● STANDARD: Normal fl ash sync, auto focus single, single drive, aperture priority, (auto) exposure,
and average metering, User button — None.
● FULL AUTO: Normal fl ash sync, auto focus single, single drive, P exposure, center-weighted meter-
ing, User button — None.
● STUDIO: Normal fl ash sync, manual focus, single drive, M exposure, spot metering User button —
AF drive.
● FILL FLASH: Normal fl ash synch, fl ash exposure set to 1.7 EV, auto focus single, single drive,
auto exposure, average metering.
If any of these four profi les and their names are satisfactory for your work, turn either the
front or the rear wheel to the desired profi le, press the Load (AF) button, and the camera is
instantly set to the content of that profi le.
Making Your Own Profi le
You cannot change the camera settings stored in STANDARD, as this provides a fast and con-
venient way to return the camera to factory default settings. You can change the functions in
the other three — FULL AUTO, STUDIO, and FILL FLASH — and make each one match your
photographic approaches. To make your own Profi le or Profi les, proceed as follows. Program
each desired function, for example, the ones mentioned for “Outdoor people pictures” as
is normally done. Save each function by clicking the ISO/WB (Drive) button. With the cam-
era in the Active mode and the LCD screen showing aperture and shutter speed, click the
Profi les/Esc. button(ON/OFF). Turn either the front or rear wheel to highlight the one of the
three profi les that you want to change. Click the ISO/WB (Drive) button, which brings up
the Profi le name screen with the Profi le name at the bottom. If you want to keep the Profi le
