OPERATION OF FILM MAGAZINES
E, ECC, and TCC Magazines
With fi lm you probably want to take advantage of the built-in automation and metering sys-
tem so consider using E, ECC, or TCC magazines where the ISO fi lm sensitivity is set on the
magazine and is electronically transferred to the camera body and its built-in metering sys-
tem. When switching from one of these magazines to another with a different ISO setting, the
change is made automatically when you change the magazine.
Working with Other Magazine Types and Digital Backs
With digital backs, A type magazines, or instant fi lm magazines you manually program the ISO
fi lm sensitivity into the camera using the camera’s Programming (Pr) mode. You must do so
whenever you change to another A type magazine or the instant fi lm magazine with a differ-
ent ISO, but not when changing to an E, ECC, or TCC type where the ISO setting on the maga-
zine overrides the ISO value programmed into the camera.
SETTING THE SHUTTER TYPE AND SHUTTER SPEED
The shutter speed ring on 202, 203, and 205 cameras has engraved shutter speeds from

second on 201 and 202 models) that can be set manually either at the
engraved speeds or between them for ½ stops. It is set to C when a lens shutter is used for
the exposure. The B setting is for longer time exposures. You can turn the shutter speed ring
to C and B, and out of it, only after pressing the lens lock button.
While the shutter speeds can be set manually, you are not likely to do so since you
probably will do most or all of your photography with the built-in aperture priority meter-
ing system where the camera sets the shutter speed automatically after you set the lens
aperture. The 202FA camera does not have the manual shutter speed ring at the front of
the camera. The electronic circuit in the camera always sets the shutter speed even in the
Manual mode.
Long Exposure Times
The electronic shutter speed range is up to 90 seconds. On the 203 and 205 cameras, set to
M (Manual mode), you can have electronically controlled exposure times up to 34 minutes.
At the M setting, press both the and the adjustment buttons simultaneously and the elec-
tronic circuit changes into the Long Exposure mode (LE), indicated on the viewfi nder display.
(see Figure 12-4). In the LE mode, every manually set shutter speed is reversed: ½ second
becomes 2 seconds,

second will be 30 seconds, and

second will be 2000 seconds,
which is almost 34 minutes. To go back to the normal shutter speed range, press both adjust-
ment buttons again simultaneously.
