Viewfi nders and Focusing Screens 149
shooting verticals. A 90-degree fi nder is necessary when you are photographing verticals
handheld. All prism fi nders show an image that is right side up and unreversed. These view-
fi nders also have a shoe on top for attaching a small fl ash unit or other accessory. The PM 90
fi nders cannot be used with the instant fi lm or the 70 mm fi lm magazines.
45-Degree Eye-Level Viewing
The prism viewfi nders with 45-degree viewing in the V camera system are a good compro-
mise between the standard hood and the 90-degree eye-level fi nders. Viewing can be con-
sidered eye-level since the lens is only about two inches lower than with a 90-degree prism
fi nder. These fi nders can be used with all fi lm magazines, including the instant fi lm types, but
are practical only when photographing in the square or horizontal format.
Refl ex Viewfi nder RMfx
The RMfx is designed for use with the focusing screen adapter on the Superwide cameras,
the FlexBody, and the ArcBody. Its built-in mirror gives an image that is right side up and mag-
nifi ed 3.3.
Some Older Hasselblad Viewfi nders
● Refl ex Viewfi nder RM2, originally called HC 3/70, for 90-degree viewing with a viewing tube long
enough to go to the rear of the 70 mm fi lm magazine.
● HC-4 viewfi nder for 90-degree eye-level viewing but with a shorter tube for use with rollfi lm
magazines only.
● HC-1 was the original 90-degree fi nder.
● PME 5 and PM 51 are two 45-degree prism fi nders with built-in exposure meter.
● PM 3 and PME 3 are like PME 5 and PM 51 but without the cut out front.
● Frame and sports viewfi nders are mounted either on the side or the top of a camera or on top of
some lenses.
Cleaning Viewfi nders
Clean the eyepiece lenses and the lens in the standard and magnifying hood the same way
you clean a lens. Blow or brush away all dust particles before wiping with lens tissue. Wipe
the lens gently with the tissue, if necessary. Use the same approach on the bottom prism sur-
face. Protect the bottom surface of the prism fi nder with its cover when the fi nder is off the
camera.
The bottom surface of older prism fi nders was covered by a plastic sheet. This should
never be cleaned with cleaning fl uids or any other chemicals.
